He had quit sports. It was that simple, or so the silver haired male thought.

It was hard to avoid, especially considering the fact that he had turned up for almost every match that Yamabuki had fought during the Kanto regionals, and some. Never mind that he was constantly hiding in the shadows, or scoffing at the sport every chance he had to. Tennis had played a part, and no matter how much he tried Akutsu could not forget the match he played against Seigaku's Echizen Ryoma. He was admittedly upset at the loss, but at the same time it was oddly... satisfying.

He barely managed to scrape through Junior High, barely managing to get into a local High school near his house. Raised by a single parent, the Akutsu family was always tight on cash, and it didn't hit any harder when his mom fell sick. Diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer, Yuki had only two months to live, with or without treatment. Not one to give up though, Akutsu quit school to work, paying for the bills that were piling up on the table.

However true to the doctor's words, Akutsu Yuki passed away two months and a half after. Leasing out their old apartment for rent, Akutsu accepted his aunt's (Yuki's adopted older sister) invitation and moved to Osaka with her. On her introduction, Akutsu took up a job, part-timing at her husband's workshop as a mechanic. Remembering a promise he made to his late mother, Akutsu began studying, taking the entrance exam to one of four well-known Universities in Osaka.

Inhaling deeply on his tabacco stick, Akutsu flicked the filter over the balcony, watching the tiny red dot disappear into the darkness. His acceptance letter had arrived a few days ago and he was due to move into the dorms tomorrow. Sparing the night sky one final look, Akutsu's eyes softened as a small smile crossed his face.

"It's all just beginning isn't it?"
